Easter is one of those holidays that can create lasting memories without a pile of presents. Maybe thats why I like it so much. Or perhaps it is because of the promise of warmer weather, even if we don't see it right away. The truth is, there are many reasons that I love Easter, and my kids are growing up to love it, too. Can anything negative come from such an exciting event??
In my home, we are food conscious. I try to be mindful of what we feed our bodies, how it affects us, and where our food is coming from. The iconic chocolate bunny comes with so many exciting memories...but where does it come from?
As I started to dig in and do some chocolate research, I was brought to tears by stories of child labor in the cocoa industry. This sweet tasting bunny comes with a story, and sometimes it isn't a happy one. That is why this year, more than ever, I want to be sure that I can feel good about what I feed my family - and I want you to have that peace of mind, too. Our brand, Chocolates By Bernard Callebaut, has worked hard to obtain the Rainforest Alliance symbol on all of our chocolate. They set out to create sustainable forestry with higher work practices and a more appropriate way of living. When I purchase a bunny from our store, I know that at the other end of the story is an organization who has decided to create change. That gets me pretty excited! Aside from health benefits from dark chocolate, we have yet another reason to feel good about indulging in our favourite sweets.
All chocolate comes at a price; inexpensive chocolate is inexpensive for a reason. With this knowledge, I will go through Easter happily, knowing that I am saying no to child labor and deforestation. I am helping create the change I wish to see! That is empowering, and that is the kind of memory I wish to make; for myself and for my children.
Happy Easter, dear friends. May it be full of blessings of every kind.

I don't want to imply there is such a thing as too much chocolate (because that's just crazy) but if you happen to have some laying around from recent holidays that you're just not sure what to do with, I have some suggestions.
Don't go another day depriving yourself.
