Fear Free Fondue

Fear Free Fondue

Its almost here! The most fun time of year, if you ask me. All the music, the lights, decorations, parties, and people. Everything about the coming holiday season makes me excited (okay, minus the terrible weather). You know what is here already? What is looming at our doorstep, in our homes, and in every public place you step into? Germ season. Ugh. What a way to sour a good post. However, it is true and we cannot get away from the fact that flu and cold season has already begun.
With germs in mind, I got thinking about some of my party pleasing desserts, and how they are best served in the summer. My favourite way to please guests (fondue) is really not a good pick when passing sickness is so likely. Therefore, its time to get creative! I call this; fondue charcuterie. Simple, classy, and with the use of tongs and pre-served melted chocolate bowls, you avoid one giant pot of forks and fingers. Sorry if I have now ruined fondue for you, but being a germaphobe, this is my favourite way to have fondue!
These small bowls can be found at your local Dollar Tree, as well as tongs if you are short on those. Now you just need fruit! And pretzels! And cake! And bacon! Yes, bacon. Despite their hesitancy, our guests and my youngest actually loved the thick cut, cooked bacon dipped in chocolate. I like to serve both milk and dark chocolate (from your local Chocolates By Bernard Callebaut) because it pairs well with everything.
As both germ season and Christmas come into full swing, don't let the threat of getting sick affect what your going to serve. Get creative, and of course share with us the ways you are serving your holiday desserts. We always want to see!
Happy indulging.

Does anyone remember the jelly roll? I have made only a handful in my baking days, but had fun each time I did. It is one of those desserts that doesn't need much fussing to look beautiful. The beauty is in the slicing and serving, that delicate pinwheel full of possibilities!
