...Not just for the Dutch!
Did you know that chocolate sprinkles are the most popular condiment in Holland? The Dutch consume approximately 1 kilo of chocolate sprinkles per year - usually on toast! Now that's some sexy toast ; ) Here in North America, we are more likely to find our chocolate sprinkles as topping for cupcakes and fancy coffee drinks. Chocolate sprinkles can be easily found at your local supermarket in the baking aisle...but read the label! These decorations are made mostly of sugar, food colouring and preservatives! Not sexy at all! Those of us wanting real ingredients now have a tastier, natural option! Our Chocolates by Bernard Callebaut stores now sell chocolate sprinkles made of 100% dark chocolate. Our sprinkles are all natural, contain no preservatives, and are perfect anytime! (retail $4.25 for 70gram jar...70grams goes a long way!) Try this easy white chocolate buttercream recipe the next time you make your favourite cupcakes, then decorate them with our new chocolate sprinkles! When using our sprinkles, please note they are lighter and thinner than supermarket sprinkles. For this reason they are also called "chocolate vermicelli".
Easy White Chocolate Buttercream
makes 2 3/4 cups
2 sticks unsalted butter at room temperature 340g (real!) white chocolate, melted and slightly cooled 1 cup confectioner's sugar 1 tsp real vanilla extract
With an electric mixer, mix butter until creamy. Add white chocolate. Add sugar and vanilla at low speed until light and fluffy. Cupcakes in cover photo are from our favourite cupcake shop, Babycakes Cupcakery Red Deer, AB!
