@cococoYEG Grand Opening Party

September 21, 2012

Last night I had the pleasure of kicking back with YEG friends (old & new) over chocolate, sparkling wine and chocolate at the grand opening of COCOCO Edmonton! COCOCO is the name of the Chocolates by Bernard Callebaut stores that have adopted a modern esthetic and new product lines including gelato, unique desserts and specialty coffee/hot chocolates in addition to our famous fine chocolates. COCOCO Edmonton is the flagship store for this new store concept. I plan to adopt at least some of this new concept for my Red Deer store in the future : ) The party was very well attended by long-time customers, community & business friends, media, foodies and representatives from Compassion House. Compassion House is a place where women with breast cancer living outside Edmonton can reside and give/receive support while they are undergoing treatment. The need for this facility is so great that they are currently raising funds for an expansion project. COCOCO Edmonton is donating 5% of their sales all week to this project. Derrick Pho & Patrick Senior, our COCOCO Master Chocolatiers, created a very cool chocolate rendition of the Compassion House expansion project which served as the centerpiece for last night's party. Unveiled at the party were new exotic flavours of gelato including salted caramel and bacon, blackberry merlot and lemongrass coconut. On the dessert side, we were treated to mini verrines (layered desserts) of triple chocolate and java. We also had the pleasure of sampling the pistachio, chocolate and raspberry chocolate macarons. To top it all off we were gifted swag bags which contained my breakfast this morning: two biscotti - chocolate amaretto & lemon, three cookies - pumpkin & white chocolate, double chocolate and something sweet & spicy, and chocolate bon bons of course! Mike Freeland, my sweetie, and his brother Ken own COCOCO and the two Chocolates by Bernard Callebaut shops in Edmonton. They have been in the business for almost 28 years...and yes, they still LOVE chocolate! I wish them all the best of luck in their new COCOCO adventure! [gallery link="file" orderby="rand"]
