Basic Hot Chocolate Recipe for Your Custom Hot Chocolate Buffet

This is a holiday entertaining idea sparked by Pinterest! Use the basic hot chocolate recipe below and offer a variety of unique ways for your guests to customize their hot chocolate! Some examples of flavouring would be: crushed candy canes, vanilla or almond infused whipping cream, ground spices (cayenne, cinnamon, nutmeg, anise), liqueur infused marshmallows (like Bailey's, Grand Marnier or Kahlua) and Hazelnut or Caramel Sauce. Garnish with colourful sprinkles or chocolate shavings. Great idea for an open house!

This recipe is for 1 cup or 250ml of hot chocolate and can be adjusted to the quanitity needed for your own custom hot chocolate buffet.

  1. Heat 250ml of 100% Whole Milk to 135 – 140 F
  2. Add 18g Semi-Sweet Chocolate & 18g Milk Chocolate
  3. Stir, using a whisk for smaller quantities or with an immersion blender for larger quantities, until all of the chocolate is melted
  4. Pour into a crockpot and adjust the temperature to maintain at 135 – 140 F
  5. Stir before serving
